Throughout her career, she has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including teacher, counselor, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Dean of Instruction, Principal, Lead Principal, Assistant Superintendent of School Choice, and Chief Academic Officer.
She began her leadership work in HISD as an Assistant Principal at one of the largest high schools in East Houston, where she helped lead academic improvement efforts that contributed to stronger student performance. Her success in that role led to her appointment as Principal of Ortiz Middle School.
As Principal of Ortiz Middle School, Ms. Longoria focused on building a strong school culture grounded in high expectations, accountability, and support for all students. Under her leadership, the campus experienced three consecutive years of student achievement growth. Ortiz Middle School was also showcased by HISD during the prestigious Broad Prize visit to Houston and was recognized for best practices.
Ms. Longoria’s leadership has earned her several distinguished honors. She was selected through Raise Your Hand Texas to attend the Harvard Principal Institute, “Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership,” in the summer of 2012. She was named Houston Independent School District Middle School Principal of the Year for the 2011–2012 and 2013–2014 school years. She also advanced to receive the Regional Principal of the Year recognition for the 2013–2014 school year.
Ms. Longoria later served as Lead Principal for two additional campuses, supporting school improvement efforts and helping ensure both campuses met state accountability standards. Her leadership experiences strengthened her belief in collaborative leadership, data-driven decision-making, and clear systems that support both teachers and students.
Her commitment to educational equity also led her to serve as Assistant Superintendent of School Choice for HISD, where she oversaw 118 Magnet programs and worked to make the school choice application process more equitable and transparent for families.
Ms. Longoria also served as Chief Academic Officer for Houston Independent School District, the largest school district in Texas. In this role, she provided district-wide academic leadership and helped guide the work that impacts teaching, learning, curriculum, instruction, school support, and student achievement across campuses. Serving in this capacity gave her a broad understanding of how strong academic systems, effective school leadership, and equitable access to quality instruction can transform outcomes for students. Her work as Chief Academic Officer deepened her commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have access to rigorous learning opportunities and the support needed to succeed.
Ms. Longoria attended Texas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also earned a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling and Mid-Management from the University of Houston-Victoria/Sugar Land. She is a member of ASCD, NASSP, TASCD, and TASSP.
